Currently Leavenworth has a graduation rate of 85.5%. The State average for Kansas is 87.5%. Efforts should be focused on improving our graduation rate at or above the State average.
Postsecondary success is measured by certifications earned by students while still in highschool, obtaining a certificate or degree following graduation, or students that are enrolled in college courses in years one and two following graduation. Of course not all students will choose to go to college but it is our duty to best prepare them for postsecondary success.
Between the years of 2014 and 2018 the postsecondary success average for Leavenworth was 46.4%. It will be my goal to ensure we have policies in place to best prepare our students for life after school.
Graduation and Postsecondary success rates may seem to only focus on High School Students. I believe how students are engaged in elementary and intermediate school does impact these important metrics. Monitoring the drop-out rate, the overall student performance at each level as well as the use of funds within the district are all critical to identifying where we can engage more, and invest in the future.
The drop-out rate for Leavenworth is was 2.4 in 2019 and 2.9 in 2020. The State average in 2019 was 1.4 and 1.3 in 2020. Studying why our students are dropping out, and what resources could be available to reduce the number of students disengaging from the education system is important. As is ensuring the Board is remaining good stewards of taxpayer dollars.
